Coatlicue Emerges from the Mansion of the Dead

On such a significant date as this one-Tlatelolco fell in the final defeat of the Aztec Empire on August 13-a monumental stone figure emerged from the earth, from its empire: the goddess Coatlicue. Several workers who were fixing the pavement near the Main Plaza discovered her. Months later the Sun Stone, also known as the Aztec Calendar and the Stone of Tizoc also appeared.
When the Indian heard that the Coatlicue was visible, they went to see her immediately with offerings, incense and flowers, which scandalized the Viceroy. The friars immediately sent her to be buried again. It was only until the first years of Independent Mexico when orders were given to unbury the goddess indefinitely, giving her a public place in the patios of the University courtyard. from Guadalupe by Zarebska
