Flying with Edna Gardner Whyte

In 1989 I had the honor of meeting and flying with Edna Gardner Whyte. She flew during the air race days and knew Amelia Earhart. When we did an air rally together a reporter was there to cover the story and recently I ran into the old photos and this article from Lady's Circle Magazine Sept/Oct 1989. She always encouraged the women around her to pursue their dreams. She knew just the right thing to say to you that could alter your view of what you your own possibilities. Thank You Edna for being a Great Woman!

Evolution of a Painting

RHAPSODY

This is the new painting RHAPSODY, oil on canvas, 60 X 40. The previous views were isolated parts of the work. I love looking at particular passages in a painting. Recently in visiting with Ernesto Mayans at his gallery in Santa Fe he mentioned an exercise in viewing a piece---he recommended cutting a square in a black piece of paper and moving it across the work observing the different areas separate from the whole. To me, the details in an abstract piece are what keeps the viewer coming back to ---look again and again to continually find new points of interest and surprises not seen on first glimpse. Ultimately a work should invite you to spend time in its presence and like a relationship always discover new things you didn't realize before.
